CASS Toastmasters International Speech and Evaluation Contest – 12th March 2018
This meeting was different. We were holding CASS Toastmasters International Speech and Evaluation Contest.
Each year, every Toastmaster can take part in International Speech and Evaluation Contest. The contest at our club was to decide who will represent CASS Toastmasters in the next stage and, hopefully, even further.
The contest was divided into two parts – Evaluation Contest and Speech Contest.
First on agenda was the Evaluation Contest. Each contestant listened to a speech given a mysterious speaker which then they had to evaluate. Dan from Croydon Communicators club gave a speech titled “42 million” in which he explained how much our lives can change in just one minute.
When Dan finished his speech, the competitors left the room to prepare their evaluations. Then Helen, Matt, Ned and Tom were called one by one to evaluate Dan’s speech.
Between the competitions, Sayara gave a presentation of Pathways – the new system Toastmaster Internation is rolling out right now to track each members progress and help them on their Toastmasters journey.
After the presentation, we entered the second part of the contest – Speech Contest. Three speakers competed for the best speech and for the honour to represent the club in the next stage.
First was Moez with a speech titled “Road Rage 2.0”. Moez told us the story how one day he got annoyed on everyone on the road.
Next was Robert with “How to stay focused” speech, in which Robert told us how to stay on course with our goal and not to get distracted on the way.
The last speaker was Conrad and his “I’m a maker” speech, telling us how to become a maker and how does the world change if you become one.
The judges left the room to debate, count points and pick the winners, while we inside the room had a little interview with the contestants and a very short Table Topics session.
The judges came back and the results were:
Speaker First Place – Conrad Gray
Speaker Second Place – Robert Carruthers
Evaluator First Place – Tom Royston
Evaluator Second Place – Ned Yuen
Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who participated in the contest!
We would like to say thank you to our guests and judges without which the contest would not take place.
Our next meeting will be on Monday, 16th March, at CASS Business School as usual. Please RSVP here: https://www.meetup.com/CASSToastmasters/events/248707520/
