CASS Toastmasters Speech Night – 21st May 2018
This meeting was different. Instead of a normal meeting, we’ve prepared something special – our first Speech Night.
Speech Night was all about celebrating the art of public speaking. We have invited some of the best speakers in London to inspire us with their best speeches. And they did deliver some of the best speeches we’ve ever heard.
The meeting began with our President, Leslie, welcoming everyone and giving an introductory speech. He explained what Speech Night is all about and then proceed to a short Table Topics session to warm up the audience. And then we were ready for some motivating, inspiring and captivating speeches.
First was Marianna. Dressed in traditional Ukrainian dress, she started to answer a question “what makes you, you?”. She boiled down the answer to three points which she shared with us.
Next was Paul to highlight why health and safety matters during holidays. He told a humorous story of his trip with friends to Rio and how it went. Key takeaway – do a bit of research before you leave (and pack more shirts).
Warren gave a touching speech about his mother. It was almost impossible to be moved by his story.
Richard was next with a speech titled “Are you a Potato or an Egg?”. Richard then followed up with this interesting question and shared his life story of a dyslexic and how while overcoming it he became a person he is right now.
And last but not least, was Giles. Giles gave a best man’s speech he will be giving at his friend’s wedding in Italy. The structure was as follows – he says something in English and then gives an “alternative” translation in Italian. People laugh from the beginning to the end.
It wouldn’t be a Toastmaster’s meeting if we haven’t had evaluated our speakers. Matthieu, Matt, Ian, Helen, and Conrad got the task to evaluate tonight’s speeches.
With final words from Leslie, the Speech Night come to an end. We’d like to say thank you for all of our speakers for entertaining us with their great speeches and for all our guests to coming in.
Our next meeting will be on Monday, 11th June, at 18:30. RSVP here: https://www.meetup.com/CASSToastmasters/events/251022755/
