Meeting 28 January 2019
We have had a great turnout tonight of 30, with around half of those being members and the other half guests. The first half of the evening started, as usual, with our Tabletopics session where attendees get to deliver an impromptu 2 minute speech on a question presented to them. Well done to 3 of our guests who gave it a go – and delivered some great speeches.
One of the most useful things about Toastmasters is that everyone gets evaluated. Even if you give an impromptu, 2 minute speech then you will receive an evaluation by another member of the group. Delivering feedback is an important part of the ethos of Toastmasters. Feedback should always be supportive and offer constructive areas in which to improve. A useful way of delivering feedback is to use the ‘sandwich technique’. This involves a commendation followed by a recommendation, followed by a commendation. This way, speakers get a balanced picture of how the evaluator has thought about their speech.
Our next meeting is on 11 February 2019. Please have a look at our Meetup link for further information: https://www.meetup.com/CASSToastmasters/events/258505844
